High School Musical-ish

A friend of a friend's daughter's birthday cake. It was a High School Musical theme so we decided just to keep the color scheme and make it a fun little girl cake. I like the simplicity and bold colors. I hope she loved it!

Pink Baby Shower Cake

A simple baby shower cake! I like the pink & brown combination. The brown strip around the bottom is actually thick, brown ribbon. So FABULOUS!!

Pink Princess Castle

This was for a friend's daughter's 1st birthday party! I LOVE this cake!!! I have also seen this castle pan used to make a boy's castle and a sand castle. I really like the pink & purple though!!

Thomas the Tank Engine Cake

Conner's 2nd birthday cake. I used a train pan from Wilton and just colored it Thomas-ish. Be careful though! When Conner now sees the picture he points out that "Thomas doesn't pull a freight car" and "Thomas has 3 wheels, not 2". This was another cake that I made before taking any classes.

Buzz Lightyear

This was Conner's 3rd birthday cake. Of course, you can't find a Buzz Lightyear cake pan so I used a football shaped pan to make a rocket instead. Another pre-class cake. This would be much cuter if I were to do it now!

Dora the Explorer

This was for my daughter, Maya's, 2nd birthday. I hadn't taken classes yet, but it still turned out cute. She LOVED it! It was made with the Wilton character pan.

Simple Birthday Cake

Just something simple, but I think it turned out nice. The flowers are made of royal icing so they were made way in advance. Throwing this together at the last minute was very simple!

Santa Cake

I love how this heart-shaped Santa turned out! It was surprisingly easy to make too, which is always nice. Just plan on using lots of white icing - the swirls use a lot!

Construction Cake

This construction cake was made for my friend's son, Landen. I found some cheap construction vehicles and people in a play set and stuck them on the 9x13 cake. I use crushed graham crackers for the dirt, though more on there would have looked more convincing. I've also heard that brown sugar makes good edible dirt.

Mini Wedding Cake

This was my final cake for class when we learned how to do tiered cakes. I was quite proud of it! It is not perfect (partly because I dropped it on its top) but it was just for class so I wasn't too concerned about it. I love the color combination though!

3 Cakes at Once!

WHO-DEY! Joey's a little football fan!

No, his name is not REALLY Jeffy! Go CATS!

Jenna's quite the girly-girl! The hot pink fondant bow was a hit!

This was my first "gig" after taking cake classes. It was a joint birthday party for my friend's 3 kids. I did these 3 cakes and 70 cupcakes all for one party - kinda hectic at home for a few days! I was overall proud of how they turned out, but there are definitely some things that needed improvement. The kids were excited to have their own personalized cakes though and I had a lot of fun working with different types of icing/fondant to get them all looking as close to perfect as I could get them!

Lego Block Cake

This is Conner's 4th birthday cake. He's big into building blocks and loved the idea of a blocks cake. It was made from a 9x13 and 9x9 cake cut into smaller pieces. The little circles on the top are made from marshmallows cut in half. I thought this would be an easy cake to make, but cutting the cakes apart made them crumbly and hard to ice. Perhaps freezing (as someone had suggested) would have helped. Live and learn!

My First Entry

OK, so I decided to set up a blogspot account as a place to display my cake pics. This past summer I decided to take cake decorating classes because I wanting to be able to make fabulous cakes for my kids' birthdays. Since then, I've started making cakes for several family members, friends, and friends of their's. I'm really enjoying making the cakes and trying to come up with new creative cake ideas. Because I often use the internet as a means of sparking my creativity, I thought I'd set up a blog to share my own creations!
I'll have some put on here in the near future. I hope you enjoy!
